Venue Whore
Guy: "Hey, is it cool if I go and play a gig in August?"
Cordelia: "Of course. When is it?"
Guy: "Oh, you don't have to go."
Cordelia: "Well, I may not. Is it the same Rolling Stones crazy cover band thing?"
Guy: "Um. Not really."
Cordelia: "Oh, you're playing something new? Well, then I definitely want to go! What is it?"
Guy: "We're playing Joe's Pub."
Cordelia: "Wow! That's great. What are you playing?"
Guy: "I've never played Joe's Pub before."
Cordelia: "I know. What are you playing?"
Guy: "I've always wanted to play Joe's Pub."
Cordelia: "Guy. What are you playing?"
Guy: "They're paying me..."
Cordelia: "Ahem."
Guy: "We're playing The Who."
Cordelia: "The Who??? The Who who we hate and their songs are dumb and boring and we hate them?"
Guy: "It's at Joe's Pub."
Cordelia: "I don't think I'm going."
No one knows what it's like
To feel these feelings
Like I do
And I blame you

How can you hate the Who? Is it simply a case of having heard the songs too many times out of context on the radio? When they were in their prime, the Who was one of the greatest bands on the planet. Granted, they eventually lost the plot, but in their day they were amazing. Of course, music is purely subjective. But hate? Seems a bit strong.
Guilty as charged. And if anyone--and really, I pretty much mean it, even if it's Yanni or the Wiggles--asks me to play the Bowery Ballroom, I'm taking the gig.
Hate. Haaaate.
And I didn't just hear them out of context--an exboyfriend was obsessed with The Who, so I had plenty of exposure.
I just don't think they sound good. Or interesting. Or good.
Whoa.
And btw, if Yanni or the Wiggles ask Guy to play the Bowery, we'll have to hire a sitter 'cos i'm so there.
Hmm...exes who love the Who. Yet another thing in common. I'm just sayin'...
"My coffee's cold, my paper's old,
My heart is sold to melancholia,
My clothes are torn, my shoes are worn,
My heart is born to melancholia.
A strange surprise, what I despise in other guys is here in me,
They lose their girl, they lose their world,
And then they cry for all to see,
I've never felt so bad, the fires drive me mad."
Hahahaha. But, for real. Sounds like fun, Guy.
